Many conditions are debilitating and not treatable, and while we try to keep pets comfortable for as long as possible, the decision is almost always inevitable. It can be difficult to know when the right time is.

If your pet is eating and drinking, has relatively normal bathroom habits, and is responsive to you, usually, most people feel that this is an adequate quality of life. Once your pet deteriorates, your veterinarian will work with you about any practical options for a good quality of life. We always try to make their final years happy and comfortable, but once this is not possible, euthanasia is the humane option.

When should I consider pet euthanasia?

The decision is often made by assessing Quality of Life (QOL) by both the family and the veterinarian. Quality of Life can be determined in older dogs and cats by examining both quantifiable (objective) and non-quantifiable (subjective) aspects of life. It can be difficult to decide to humanely euthanize on your own. Consultation and counselling for (or against) euthanasia are available. Please feel free to contact us during the day, 7 days a week.

What is the process for cat euthanasia?

Your pet will be given a sedative either to make them as comfortable as possible, and an IV catheter will be put in place. The euthanasia drug is given through the IV catheter. In rare circumstances, the drug is given through a different route.

Do you do house calls?

Our clinic does not perform house calls. We would be happy to refer you to a licensed veterinarian who performs house calls.

Can you stay with your cat during euthanasia?

Yes, you can stay with your cat during the euthanasia. Some people will stay some people do not stay. It is your personal preference and choice.

What is the cost of at home or in clinic euthanasia?

As well as paw print plaques and specialty urns. Please feel free to contact our clinic during the day, 7 days a week for any questions you may have.
